Sheet metal laser cutting

An innovative metal laser cutting system

Laser cutting is a thermal process consisting of a laser beam that hits the surface of the material and then heats it until it melts. Compared to other cutting processes, such as plasma cutting, laser cutting stands out because it is highly accurate, quick, and versatile. These are some of the advantages that make laser cutting the process that is generally chosen and used for metalworking.
We combine two laser cutting machines, one with fibre technology and one with Co2 technology, at Loda Carpenteria which means that we are able to process a wide variety of materials and maintain features to within a tenth of dimensional tolerances.
Laser sheet cutting begins with engraving cutting a hole into the metal outside of the actual shape of the piece that is going to be made. This crater that is made by the laser beam's incision into the material is not part of the piece itself. Once this has been completed, the shape of the piece then cut. During cutting, the laser beam melts the material which is then removed, not by mechanical contact, but by gases such as oxygen and nitrogen.
The pieces remain attached to the sheet metal through thin micro-joints. Due to these micro-joints, the piece can easily be detached from the cut pieces at the end of the laser cutting process. A worker will detach the part and check each piece thoroughly.
With a view of being environmentally friendly, at Loda Carpenteria we produce the nitrogen necessary for processing ourselves which means that it is not necessary to be delivered by road transport.
